TL:DR- I’m running a “Sewing Challenge” in the Self Sewn Wardrobe Facebook Group! We’re all going to try and sew every day for 21 days. Want to be motivated and share your struggles or brag about how you already sew every day? Join the Self Sewn Wardrobe Facebook Group and do so there! The name of this challenge goes along with our next SewHere Box- The Sew Long and Sew Happy Box!
Hashtags for sharing in the Facebook Group and on Instagram: #SewLongSewHappyChallenge #SewingBinge (more on #SewingBinge here on the blog in the next few weeks).
Why a Challenge?
I’m trying to get my life together- as always- and I’ve been listening to a self improvement podcast called “Straight and Curly“. It’s two lovely Australian blogger/writers named Carly Jacobs (aka Smaggle) and Kelly Exeter discussing self-improvement research and “life hacks”. I love their accents and their attitude. They’re smart, funny, easy to listen to, and they don’t give off a pressuring vibe that makes me feel like I have to do everything they say in order to have a fulfilling life. Did I mention their accents? Love ’em.
Carly and Kelly discuss forming good habits and breaking bad ones, and Kelly is running a challenge where you have “non-negotiable” time every day for 21 days. So, I’m totally plagiarizing her idea, and challenging all of you to sew every day for 21 days.
Easy for me to say, right? I run a sewing business, I certainly sew every day! Nope. I don’t sew everyday. I was about to write “I don’t get to sew every day”, but I’ll try and take a little more responsibility for myself. I get caught up doing other things- legitimate things!- but I’d still like to sew more. I plan on writing a bit more about how I’m using my time in the coming weeks. Let’s see if this challenge helps me and helps you!
We had a little discussion about this in the Facebook Group. Does cutting count? Does thinking count? Does Cleaning Count?
I’m going to let you be your own boss here. For me, I don’t want to count cleaning. I need to clean my space, yes, but I feel it’s a separate issue. I want to actually sew a seam or two, or I don’t get to count it toward my goal. A few members said that they’d count anything that helped them progress toward finishing a project. You know what? I’m not the challenge police- I’ll just challenge you to make your own rules and stick to them!
Ok- I’m off to snuggle baby Jerome, and schedule my week, so that I get some sewing done and fill all your orders, and make more videos for you all!
