Today is the day! Or, well, yesterday was the day that I made one of my dreams come true. For over a year now, I’ve been scheming, dreaming, and fulminating over the idea of a Self Sewn Wardrobe Planner. I love planners and notebooks. I love to sew. I’d like to get more sewing done, so I figured I could use a planner.
Now, I’m a bit obsessive about notebooks and planners. I like to use the Right Paper and the Right Pen when I sketch or write– it kind of annoys mom and Sam (understandably). How could I create and publish a planner that lived up to my own high standards? It was clear from the beginning that it wouldn’t be a hard copy. We couldn’t afford to front the cost of printing a planner. Plus- what if I wanted to change something? What if I wanted to do things a bit out of order, or add in sketching pages or swatch pages?
Oddly enough, this need for customization and flexibility paralyzed me as I tried to decide what to include, exclude, and fine tune.
I think I’ve come upon a wonderful solution to our Wardrobe Planning needs, and they are available now- this very moment!!!
The Universal Self Sewn Wardrobe Planner
This planner allows you to plan and execute any wardrobe sewing project. There are pages to record relevant body measurements, pattern research, techniques to test, and a place to put fabric swatches. There’s a “schedule” of tasks that we’ve listed, and we encourage you to fill in a “due date” and put it in your daily planner or online calendar. That’s right- this planner is not dated. You can use it any old time. You can take a month or a week or a year to make a project. You could have some projects going simultaneously.
The planner isn’t just a scheduling tool. It’s a record-keeping tool. The intent is that you should be able to revisit your planner later and you’ll know what materials you need to make jeans or underwear, how your machine was set up to do so, and our “Reflections” section will help jog your memory about fit and construction.
The planner is a downloadable, printable PDF, and you can re-print it forever after purchase. You can also decide to print more than one of some of the pages. For example, you might print more than one project page during your “Month of Making Underwear”, but you’ll only need one during your “Month of Making a Coat” (although, don’t let me put limits on you).
The Themed Wardrobe Planner
Over in the Self Sewn Wardrobe Group, we’ll help you get focused and give you a bit more guidance for sewing projects each month. In fact, we have a whole year of projects planned for you right now! The themed wardrobe planner includes specialized instruction based on the project of choice and original hand, drawn art by me- Mallory Donohue.
January 2018 is pretty special, it’s all about wardrobe evaluation and planning. So, if you bought just one themed monthly planner this year- January would be the one to get. Oh, and don’t worry if you’re reading this later- you can evaluate your wardrobe any time- simply buy the planner.
The planner is a downloadable, printable PDF, and you can customize your planning experience. There are pages to log your sewing hours and set goals- you may want to print more than one of these pages throughout the year!
