Each year, the sewing community here at Zede’s makes 275 “Read.” bags for the Jumpstart program at the University of Missouri. This program serves at-risk pre-schoolers in the Columbia, MO area, and helps to give them the literacy tools they need to be successful in Kindergarten and beyond.
There are several ways to help out with “Read.” bags.
Donate Fabric- Any kid-friendly woven fabrics are great for “Read.” bags. Drop off fabric at Zede’s any time we are open. This is usually our biggest need.
Come to a “Sew Day”- We will have “sew days” scheduled where we set up an “assembly line” to crank out read bags. You can also work on Read bags any time during Open Studio. There will be no charge for Open Studio, if you’re working on Read bags.
Make “Read.” bags at home.– Come to Zede’s and pick up some embroidered panels or kits, and sew up some bags at home. The videos below show you what to do!
Spread the Word– Tell your friends who sew that they can help!
